Density Standards Facility
TUV NEL has established an enviable track record for the measurement of accurate and traceable values of density for the metering of high-value products in the oil & gas and petrochemical industries and for critical metering applications in the aerospace and process industries.
Measurements are made using the National Primary Standard facilities for the density of liquids and gases at elevated pressures. The facilities utilize the magnetic-suspension technique developed by Ruhr-University of Bochum and employ either a single-sinker technique for liquid measurements or a dual-sinker technique for gas measurements. The uncertainties in the measured densities are 0.01% for liquids and 0.02% for gases.
All measurements of density are traceable to the UK's primary standards of mass, length and temperature.
Services Offered:
- Reference-quality measurement of density of liquids in the temperature range -40 to 150°C at pressures up to 30 MPa.
- Reference-quality measurement of density of pure gases and gas mixtures in the temperature range -40 to 150°C at pressures from 1.2 to 30 MPa.
| Facility | Capacity | Uncertainty of reference measurements |
|---|---|---|
| Density | liquid: -40 to 150°C 0 to 300 bar gas: -40 to 150°C 12 to 300 bar | 0.01% 0.02% |
